This fridge is just fantastic. It came without the door fixing kit, but these are both easy to buy as a spare part and very reasonable. The fridge is physically the same size outside as my old undercounter fridge. However, inside it has almost twice the capacity due to its very clever design and no ice box. The slide out bottom shelf is so simple I cannot understand why other suppliers have not copied it, as it offers storage for loads of veg and dead easy access. This is a top product I would have happily paid the full price if I could have found a new one.
This Bosch fridge is amazingly quiet and incredibly energy efficient. There are some very good design features such as the modular shelves and door racks, and the remotely adjustable rear feet which made installation straightforward and much less hassle than I'd expected. However you should only consider an under-counter fridge like this if your kitchen won't accomodate a full-height or vertical in-column design. The space inside low level fridges of this type is very limited and would struggle even to accommodate the needs of a modern couple. Moreover it's difficult to see what's in it and get things in and out (unless you're a small child). You will occasionally see an alternative version with an icebox ("KUL" instead of "KUR"). For these even more space-limited models, make sure the ambient temperature switch behind the thermostat dial is working properly as it can get broken if the fridge was transported carelessly. There are several older and newer KUR and KUL model numbers which are essentially identical in that they are built using identical parts. You may also find similar models labelled Siemens or Neff as all three brands are just labels used by the same manufacturer. Reliability of Bosch fridges and the fragility of the plastic fittings etc is probably no worse than any other marque these days. On the plus side, spare parts are easy to obtain from the Bosch Home appliances website and from 3rd party suppliers like espares and Kenco and they'll continue to be available throughout the lifetime of the fridge. Considering the capacity issues, these fridges are massively overpriced at a recommended retail price of about £450. Buy on ebay and don't spend more than £250 overall. If you are buying any used fridge, first enquire about any faults, "cosmetic" damage or missing parts so you can price up the cost of replacement parts. You may need to purchase a new fitting kit and also replacements for any broken feet. If there is any doubt about the functioning of the compressor, or the integrity of the chassis or the door, then don't buy - the cost of replacing any one of these would equal the value of the fridge itself. But anything else can be replaced. Do make sure all the glass shelves are removed from inside the fridge before transport as they are quite heavy, and interior of the fridge is likely to get damaged otherwise. Despite the tendency of appliance brand attributes to become eroded as modern companies run their brands into the ground I would still prefer to own a second hand Bosch than a brand new Beko.Read full review
