How To Clean Your Fridge

When it comes to fridge smells, it's hard to think of anything worse than the juices of formerly fresh crab making their way into the fridge's innards. Ew!

That said, the first step for getting rid of even the mildest smells (if there is such a thing) is to clean up what you can and get rid of what's left.

Now let's go with one of the simplest remedies I know for smell-busting: the three-day newspaper (or charcoal or coffee grounds) treatment. It's also one of the most effective in my experience.

Start by taking everything out of it and the freezer one more time, the wipe down the doors and shelves. Fill both with coffee grounds or activated charcoal in foil or shallow dishes, or stuff the shelves full of crumpled newspapers. (This task is a heck of a lot easier than the deep cleaning you did the first time.)

Then close the doors and don't open them for at least three days. Repeat this treatment if you need to.
